About this promotion
Register a new Asia Miles account (Cathay Pacific’s mileage program) using a referral code and you can earn up to 8,000 miles. If one referred member becomes an active member, the referrer and the referred member will earn 1,000 miles each. If five referred members all become active, the referrer and the five referred members will share 48,000 miles in total — that’s 8,000 each.
Steps
- Go to: New Account Promotion Link
- In the referral code field, enter: MGMA13260 or MGMA16257 (our referral code).
- After a few minutes, you’ll receive the Asia Miles member registration link by email, and you can complete registration via the link.
- Select to get a password, set a new password, log in to the Asia Miles official website and update your address. Registration is then complete.
- If you become an active member before October 27, you can claim your mileage reward. I’ll explain how to become an active member below.
How to become an active member
Official explanation
Each referred member must complete their first qualifying transaction with an Asia Miles partner during the promotion period and earn miles. Qualifying transactions cover 9 categories: aviation, finance and insurance, hotels, telecom, auto and transportation, retail, dining and banquets, travel and leisure, and professional services (“first mileage-earning transaction”).
During the promotion period, the following transactions will not count as qualifying mileage transactions:
a) Additional and bonus miles earned with partner institutions during the promotion period.
b) Miles earned in the following financial categories:
- Using the Cathay Pacific card on American Express.
- Through welcome offers and promotional offers, including point conversion promotions.
- Through other banking products.
c) Miles earned through Asia Miles iShop transactions.
My analysis
Simply put, once miles post to a newly registered account, it is considered an active member.
Most commonly: fly Cathay Pacific and one-world alliance flights (such as AA) and accumulate miles to your registered Asia Miles account. You can do this by entering your Asia Miles number in your passenger/trip information before flying, for example before an AA flight. If you can’t enter it, call AA customer service and tell them you want to credit your flights to Asia Miles, then provide your membership number and they should add it.
Possible shortcut: Based on the terms, this promotion only excludes miles earned directly via Cathay Pacific co-branded cards. I think it may be possible to activate this offer by transferring points from other points systems into Asia Miles. For example:
- SPG Platinum members can try transferring 1 SPG point to Asia Miles.
- Standard SPG members can transfer a minimum of 1,000 points to Asia Miles.
- ThankYou Points can transfer 1,000 points to Asia Miles.
