American Express has started making benefit changes to AMEX Platinum cards issued in Europe, with Spain being the first market. These changes could expand to other countries and, if there is no pushback, may eventually roll out globally. Previously, AMEX Platinum cardholders were eligible for a Priority Pass membership that provided unlimited complimentary access to all Priority Pass lounges worldwide. While Priority Pass also used to include restaurant access, most bank-issued Priority Pass memberships have already removed that benefit.
Update for AMEX Platinum cardholders in Spain: Priority Pass visit limits (effective October 24, 2024)
- Primary cardholders: 20 visits per year.
- Additional Platinum cardholders: 10 visits per year.
- Beyond that, each visit costs about 30 euros, or around $35.
However, the Global Lounge Collection still does not appear to have visit limits. For example, Centurion, Plaza Premium, and Delta Sky Clubs are part of the Global Lounge Collection, though the details for other lounges remain unclear. This new cap on Priority Pass visits is a major downgrade for frequent travelers.
