The AMEX Platinum authorized user offer has changed for the worse. You now need to add an Additional Platinum card with a $195 annual fee in order to qualify for the spending bonus. The regular no-annual-fee Companion Platinum card no longer works. If you ignore the other benefits, paying $195 for 20,000 Membership Rewards points is not really a great deal.
The paid authorized user card comes with lounge access benefits, while the free one does not.
