AMEX Membership Rewards Transfers to Marriott and Hilton with an Extra 40% Bonus (Pretty Average)

AMEX has launched a new transfer bonus. Now, when you transfer Membership Rewards (MR) to Marriott points, you get a 40% bonus, which is an effective 1:1.4 ratio. I personally think it’s not very worthwhile, since Marriott points are worth only around 0.6–0.7, so the MR transfer value is around 1.

The Hilton transfer offer is similar, also a 40% bonus, with a final transfer ratio of 1:2.8. The average value of Hilton points is about 0.4, so the MR transfer value is around 1.1.

Both of these are generally just okay. I’d only recommend them if your points are a little short, or if you need to top up for a "4-for-1" type of promotion.
