I came across a news post on Hupu today saying that Michael Jordan’s AMEX Green credit card sold at auction for $3,146 in 2012. I looked it up, and the earliest report I found is here: NBCSport. The opening bid at the time was $1,000. The card looked like this; it was the classic older version of the Green card:
If you look closely, you’ll notice that one corner has already been cut. Supposedly, many Americans have a sentimental attachment to this card and keep paying the annual fee even if they do not use it. KUKU guesses that the card’s pandemic-era reimbursement benefits may have had something to do with how many people still held it. If Jordan still had this card, he also could have enjoyed up to $80 in wireless telephone services credits during the pandemic period—hopefully His Airness did not forget.
