[Update 2021.1] Today, the author noticed that AMEX has started issuing these missing points retroactively. It appears to be happening in batches. In the author's case, the first make-up posting arrived on 12.14 (for the October bonus), and the second arrived on 1.18 (for the November bonus). More should likely follow. HT: sky_mashiro

Previously, there was an AMEX credit card referral offer with an extra 3x MR, see here. Many people used the AMEX Gold card for referrals [which already earns 4x worldwide at restaurants and 4x at U.S. supermarkets], because at the time the referral bonus was 25-30,000 MR per referral, and quite a few people even used it for resale/trading. However, for a fairly large share of people, this referral offer bugged out, showing up in the following ways:
- No email notification was received, and spending did not earn the extra 3x
- An email notification was received, but spending still did not earn the extra 3x
AMEX has fixed the bug. Many people, including several WeChat readers, received the email notification today, meaning the offer has now successfully triggered. Below is the author's case (the evening of the 6th, U.S. time):
WeChat reader yukio also chatted with customer service, and customer service gave the following response:
Based on the literal wording, AMEX will, on the one hand, retroactively add the missing 3x MR on all eligible spending after your referral was approved, and on the other hand, after you receive the referral bonus email (11/06), you will still have 3x for another 92 days! If you made the referral earlier, that effectively means an extra month of 3x rewards. What customer service says is not always accurate, but this time it seems relatively credible.
