[Updated 02/21] For most people, the Gold refer bonus has increased to 15,000 per referral (up to $240 in value each time), while a smaller number of people have been bumped up to 20,000 per referral (up to $320 in value each time). The Green has increased to 10,000 per referral (up to $160 in value each time). Higher refer bonuses effectively make these two cards more attractive. If you can reliably make one referral per year, you can almost think of them as no-annual-fee credit cards, especially the AMEX Green, which earns 3x MR on travel and dining worldwide and is a very strong option. At the same time, with the AMEX Gold and AMEX Green, you can use these two cards to broadly refer for all AMEX credit cards. As long as your IP is good enough, you may be able to pull up the highest incognito offer available (these are also nicknamed “stud cards”).

According to Doc, AMEX is currently sending new refer bonuses to cardholders of the personal Gold credit card. Some people received 20,000, some received 15,000, and ordinary folks like most of us are probably seeing 10,000.

If you received a 20,000 refer offer, then referring your own LD for a 75,000-point AMEX Platinum would bring the total to 95,000, which is not bad at all. Normally, targeted 100,000 offers cannot be obtained through refer links.

  • Also, the highest single-card refer bonus was last month’s 25,000-point AMEX biz gold credit card offer (now expired; the refer bonus is only 20,000 now), but since it is a business card, people tend to be more cautious about applying
