【2020.2 update】Most people should have received it by now. Starting in January, quite a few readers began reporting that they got the bonus, and it looks like AMEX did not renege. I met the spending requirement on the second statement cycle, and today I received the 150,000-point bonus. Glad I got on this train — it was definitely worth it. Congrats, everyone!~

【2020.1 update 2】Today, the second monthly statement finally showed up after quite a long wait. The welcome bonus is all showing on the statement (some readers saw 150,000 points on the previous statement already), but it still hasn’t posted yet. As mentioned below in this quick update:

  • If it shows on the statement, AMEX usually will not renege. If you need the points urgently, contact customer service and choose your words carefully; sometimes customer service can temporarily placate you with quite a few points. If you’re not in a hurry, I personally do not recommend contacting customer service.
  • Even if the statement already shows the 150,000-point bonus as completed, make sure your non-reimbursable spending has already exceeded $4,000, just in case AMEX uses that as an excuse to deny the welcome bonus.
  • AMEX has done this kind of thing more than once. Usually buggy links are more likely to have delays. For example, the previous Delta Gold 70,000 link was delayed by about 2 months before it was paid out. They definitely won’t renege, so just be patient. The Hilton referral bonus was also delayed before, and in the end it was paid out or even compensated with extra points.

Some readers were worried that Hilton welcome bonuses were all slowing down, but that’s not the case. My family applied for the Hilton Surpass (TPG 150,000) and the annual-fee Aspire (150,000) before the New Year, and both received the welcome bonus immediately the day after meeting the spending requirement. The full 300,000 points posted normally.

【2020.1 update】Today AMEX sent an email to applicants saying the weekend night certificates are already on the way. Everyone can check their own inbox. The welcome bonus has not posted yet, but it should arrive in a few days.

Last month, a no-annual-fee application link for the Hilton Aspire card appeared, and many people jumped on it right away. Quite a few even pushed through without a bonus popup. But those who got on board and were eligible for the welcome bonus should have noticed that even after they finished spending right away and the statement came out, the 150,000 Hilton points still had not posted. I also spent more than $5,000, and even the spending bonus had not posted.
