According to Departure, AMEX’s own magazine, they compiled income and other demographic information for AMEX Platinum cardholders. Not sure how many of us actually meet these benchmarks—I’m definitely dragging down the average. Looks like points-and-miles hobbyists still make up a smaller share than genuinely wealthy cardholders.

  • Average total assets: $4,300,000
  • Average household annual income: $474,000
  • Average age: 56
  • Average number of real estate properties owned: 3.6

There’s also average data for Centurion cardholders, which is pretty interesting:

  • Average total assets: $11,400,000
  • Average household annual income: $1,800,000
  • Average age: 57
  • Average number of real estate properties owned: 6

If you meet those numbers, you can try the link below and see whether you might be invited to apply for the Black Card.

The Black Card is mainly for people who have plenty of money to spend. It’s not especially compelling in terms of value, and is more of a status symbol.
