[Update 7/16] A big bug showed up: the Amazon AMEX MR 20% off deal initially worked on Amazon gift cards. Amazon then quickly fixed it so Amazon gift cards no longer worked, but in the process they accidentally reset everyone’s usage status for this deal. So if you had already used this deal before, you may be able to use it one more time. Even though you can no longer buy Amazon gift cards with it, combined with the other pricing quirks it still works out to about 36% off, which is still pretty good.
Today is Prime Day, and another big bug appeared: the AMEX 20% off discount applies before the Amazon Prime Day deal discount. And Amazon Prime Day deal discounts are taken as fixed dollar amounts. So, for example, the Essential Phone originally costs $500, and the Prime Day discount cuts $250 off to make it $250. If you use the AMEX 20% off deal, it first drops the price to $400, then subtracts the Prime Day $250 discount, bringing the final price down to $150. Last year’s flagship specs, Snapdragon 835, for only $150. Similarly, the Bose QC25 can come out to just a little over $60 after everything. So check the offers below and see what final price you get.

- Spend $10 at Whole Foods and get $10: Scan your Prime code bar when shopping at Whole Foods, and if you spend more than $10, you will receive an Amazon $10 code that can be used during Prime Day
- 20% off Amazon Warehouse: Amazon Warehouse is similar to a place that sells used items, but the quality is controlled by Amazon, so it is generally better than buying from individual sellers. The inventory likely comes mainly from Amazon’s Trade-In program. An extra 20% off is quite strong.
- Free 3-Month Prime Membership: This is a targeted offer and requires registration with an AMEX credit card. It appears that only accounts that have never used Prime before are eligible. You can try to see whether you’re able to sign up.

Current Deals
This year’s Amazon Prime Day dates have been announced: from July 16 at 3pm ET (12pm PST) through midnight on July 17, for a total of 36 hours.
Based on past Prime Day experience, there are usually various deals running continuously from the date of the announcement up to Prime Day itself. Also, in prior years, some of the “early access” deals have actually been better than the Prime Day deals themselves. So if you want to score the best deals, you should start paying attention now and keep watching closely.
Today is the official Prime Day date announcement, so Amazon has also launched several promotions:
- Echo Show on sale for $129.99 through Prime Day (regularly $229.99, an instant $100 discount)
- 30% off select Amazon private-label products (including vitamins and more)
- From July 14 through July 17, Amazon Prime Rewards Visa cardholders get 10% back at Whole Foods Market
- 3 months of Kindle Unlimited for just $0.99 (must redeem by July 31)

There is currently a $10 off promo code: 20PRIMEDAY (expires July 17, 2018). It can be used on your first 2 orders, for a total of $20 free.
Requirements: order total must be over $10, you must have an Amazon Prime membership, and you must be a first-time Prime Now user.
