Amazon Allowance used to be a great tool for automatically meeting credit card transaction requirements. You could set your own schedule and amount, and it would automatically load money into your Amazon account. In the beginning, you could reload as little as $0.5, and later that was changed to $5. However, Amazon is now discontinuing this service. If you are currently using it, you should read this announcement carefully so it does not affect how your transaction count is calculated.
The most important points are:
- You can no longer create a new allowance
- Existing allowances will stop reloading on July 30
If you have any of the following credit cards:
- AMEX EveryDay Preferred: Make 30 purchases each month to earn a 50% points bonus, equivalent to 4.5x at supermarkets, 3x on gas, and 1x on other purchases
- AMEX EveryDay: Make 20 purchases each month to earn a 20% points bonus, equivalent to 2.2x at supermarkets and 1.2x on other purchases
- BofA Better Rewards: Pay your bill in full each month and get $25/$30 for that quarter
