During the pandemic, Chinese airlines began selling various all-you-can-fly products to stay afloat. Now Alaska Airlines has launched Flight Pass, which lets you pay a fixed amount each month in exchange for a certain number of West Coast flights. Eligible routes are:
Product Overview
This product comes in two versions: Flight Pass and the premium Flight Pass Pro.
Flight Pass: must be booked at least 14 days before departure
- 1 roundtrip every 2 months: $49
- 1 roundtrip every month: $99
- 2 roundtrips every month: $189
Flight Pass Pro: must be booked at least 2 hours before departure
- 1 roundtrip every 2 months: $199
- 1 roundtrip every month: $399
- 2 roundtrips every month: $749
Each month, based on your subscription tier, you receive a certain number of credits. You must book your ticket before the credit expires, but the travel date can be after the credit’s validity period. If unused, the credit expires and is forfeited after its expiration date. Booking an award flight requires payment of $14.61 (taxes and fees, plus a symbolic one-cent base fare). Some flights at more desirable times may cost more than this, but Alaska Airlines says it will try to ensure that free options are available. As for seating, these are standard economy seats, with the option to pay extra to upgrade to Premium Class (Alaska’s version of Economy Plus).

Note that this product requires a one-year commitment after enrollment. You can’t just pay for a few months and walk away, so it’s not a good fit for people who only need frequent roundtrip flights in the short term.
Who Is It Good For?
If you frequently need to travel back and forth between two cities on the West Coast—for example, for business or because your family is split between two locations—this product is pretty compelling.
