Another major carrier has gone under—Mexico’s flagship airline, AeroMexico, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. on 2020-6-30.

Like AV and Latam, flights should continue to operate. Existing reservations will be honored, vouchers will not be canceled, and miles will remain valid.
This pandemic has shown that carriers in Central and South America seem to be the ones most likely to fail, though it’s hard to say whether that’s due to airline execution or government oversight.
I’ve flown on AM twice, and it was, to put it mildly, hard to describe.
On the LAX-MEX route and the return flight, operated by a 787, the check-in counter was very bXXXX. When I asked for either a window or aisle seat, I was told there were no seats available. Then, once onboard, I found the plane was barely even half full—very empty. In the end, I had to just move on my own and find a seat.
And on such a short flight, by halfway through there were already lots of people sprawled out in awkward positions, fast asleep. The kicker: some of them weren’t even wearing shoes.
So my conclusion is: total junk airline—no courtesy, even no proper send-off.
