Citi has announced that from January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022, grocery purchases will also count toward the Citi Prestige $250 travel credit. If you still have this card, especially the Citi gold lower-annual-fee version, you can comfortably keep it for another year. Unfortunately, this card is not available for new applications at the moment and may have been discontinued.
Seriously, AMEX should learn from this. Expanding the eligible categories for its airline credit would make things so much easier instead of giving everyone a headache.
