Before you know it, the second quarter is almost here, so let’s take a look at which credit cards are worth using in Q2.
Chase Freedom

For Q2, Freedom’s 5x UR points bonus categories are grocery stores and drugstores. Grocery stores do not include Walmart or Target, nor do they include wholesale clubs such as Costco, Sam's Club, and BJ's. Most grocery stores and drugstores sell a wide variety of gift cards, such as Amazon gift cards and Visa gift cards. If you have a need for them, you can stock up on gift cards to earn valuable Ultimate Rewards points.

After overlapping heavily with Chase Freedom in Q1, Discover it’s 5% cash back categories for Q2 are quite different from Freedom’s, including home improvement stores and wholesale clubs. Typical examples of the former are Lowe's and Home Depot. If you need to buy home appliances, you may want to use Discover, and these two stores also sell quite a few gift cards. The latter includes merchants such as Sam's Club, Costco, and BJ's. Sam's Club sells Mastercard gift cards, but because the margins are low, they are not especially worth buying. Costco does not accept Discover cards in-store, so you would need to buy a Costco Cash Card on Costco.com first (buy here), and then use the Cash Card in-store.
Citi Dividend
Activate here Citi Dividend offers 5% cash back in Q2 on drugstores and health clubs. Drugstores, such as Rite Aid, sell a large number of gift cards, making this a good time to buy them. If you have a gym membership, you could also charge a full year of dues during Q2. Are you ready to maximize these Q2 credit card bonus categories?
