Right now, you can subscribe to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) for 2 months for just $1. You need to start by clicking through the United Airlines shopping portal, and you can also earn 1,000 UA miles. In other words, 1,000 miles + a 2-month magazine subscription for $1.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Go to the UA mileage shopping portal. You need to log in with your UA account first, then search for The Wall Street Journal.
- Click the $1 for 2 months Shop Now button to enter the WSJ site. If you have an AMEX card, it is recommended to use AMEX Checkout directly so you do not have to fill in your personal information again. If you want to pay with another card, then register a new account.
- Then just fill in your address and payment information step by step.
- After the subscription is completed, within 3-5 business days, miles should show up as pending in your AA account (the image below shows the miles I received from subscribing last year).
- Before the 2 months are up, call customer service to cancel the subscription (cancellation can only be done by phone).
Things to Keep in Mind
- If you cancel within 45 days after subscribing, UA may claw back the miles. After 2 months, the subscription will automatically convert to the regular price, so be sure to cancel within 45-60 days.
- According to WSJ, only users who have not subscribed within the past 180 days are eligible for the $1 for 2 months offer (in practice, using a different email address can avoid this).
- Each airline account can only receive the mileage rebate for this subscription once.
- You can only cancel by phone, and the customer service representative may try various ways to persuade you to keep the subscription. Be firm and say you do not want it and want to cancel. Only once you confirm in your account that it will not auto-renew is the process complete.
- If you are worried you might forget to cancel, you can use a Citi credit card to generate a virtual account number for the subscription, or use a Visa gift card with only a small balance on it.
- If you still do not see the airline miles after 20 days, you can contact customer service by email and include your order number.
